Leading Cause of Kitchen Fires

Can you guess the leading cause of winter fires in the home? You might guess electrical issues or most responses and the first thing that comes to mind is a Christmas tree fire. Well it isn't either one of those.
The answer is surprisingly (or unsurprisingly depending on how up-to-speed you are on fire causes), it is from cooking!
Fires can start easily from unattended cook tops, grease splatters, using plastic wear such as utensils or platters in the oven. Another simple mistake made way too often is leaving a dish towel or oven mitt too close to an open flame. Electric cook tops and ovens are no safer and all of the above mentions can cause the same result.
These scenarios can happen any time of the year, we associate winter with kitchen fires because most people do more cooking inside when its too cold outside.
Always be aware of your surroundings and remember Safety First!
